Hospital Family Resource Centre

Vote for childcare in Hospital

My time afterschool childcare at Hospital Family Resource centre has been shortlisted as one of the local deserving children’s projects in contention for a €10,000 award from AIB Hospital through the Better Ireland Programme. The branch will share out €10,000 between the three short listed projects with first place receiving €5,000, second place €3,000 and third place €2,000 that will be ranked in order by public votes cast over a four-week period from 15th February – 15th March 2010.The local community can simply text Hospital and B to 51303 or vote online at www.betterireland.ie. The award is part of AIB’s Better Ireland Programme which supports children with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities, children affected by drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness or a lack of access to mainstream education due to poverty and children suffering from terminal and chronic illnesses.

My Time afterschool childcare is involved in community childcare for school age children. Opened in 2006, the service has catered for over 100 children from Hospital, Knocklong, Glenbrohane. Knockainey and surrounding areas. The project hopes to expand the range of cookery activities with children, equipping them with many practical life skills.

The Group now has the chance to win a share of the €10,000 from AIB Hospital and needs the public text vote to top the poll for €5,000! So what do the local community need to do to give My time afterschool childcare a great chance to win?

Simply text Hospital B to 51303 (standard SMS rates apply) or log onto the website www.betterireland.ie to cast your vote now!

The more votes we get the better chance the group has to top the poll in this year’s programme and receive the largest share of the €10,000 award. Each text vote cost is charged at your operator’s standard text rate and online votes can be cast free of charge.

“We are delighted to be in the running for this award from AIBHospital through the AIB Better Ireland Programme. We really need the local community to vote for us. Winning the first prize share of the €10,000 funding would allow us to continue the work we do for the children of our local community so I would ask everyone in the area to get texting to ensure we top the poll.”

Note: This year AIB will donate €1.82m to local deserving projects for children through its Better Ireland Programme which focuses on enhancing the lives of children effected by physical or sensory disabilities, intellectual or general learning disabilities, drug or alcohol abuse, homelessness or lack of access to mainstream education due to poverty and children suffering from terminal and chronic illnesses.

Check out www.betterireland.ie for further details or contact your local AIB Branch.

Friends of Ballyhoura Development old and new gathered to celebrate the life of the late Jim Beary, who helped found Ballyhoura Development 21 years ago.

Beautiful sunshine and the presence of local food producers Maurice Gilbert (mulled apple juice) and James O’Doherty (artisan cheese) ensured an enjoyable afternoon. It was a time to celebrate the life of one of the dedicated individuals who back in 1989 saw an opportunity for local communities to take charge of their own development. An Ogham stone was unveiled by former Chairman Seamus Hyde with the inscription “Pray for Jim Beary”.

Old friendships were rekindled and new ones made. And the crowd were told about the exciting initiatives planned for our anniversary year, from Community Connect to Ballyhoura Dragons. All events will be celebrating not our company, but the individuals, communities and businesses that we serve.
